{detailed description}Formed on the 8th December, 1914, No. IX Squadron is the senior squadron currently serving in Bomber Command. This book describes something of the history of the unit from that date to the end of February, 1964, and also includes some details of the original Royal Flying Corps wireless unit which became No. 9 Squadron, R.F.C.
For clarity throughout this book, reference to the squadron has been made in Roman numerals, although this was not general practice until sometime after 1936 when the badge was officially approved.
The writer is indebted to the following for help in compiling this book : Mrs. A. Rimmer, Mr. E. Turner of the Air Historical Branch, Ministry of Defence, the keeper of Photographs, Imperial War Museum, the Editor of Flight International, Mr. C. Andrews of British Aircraft Corporation, Messrs. M. J. F. Bowyer, P. J. R. Moyes, J. D. R. Rawlings and D. B. Robertson and in particular many former members of No. IX (B) Squadron, without whose help this history would not have been possible.
