{detailed description}Stand by to pick up survivors.....
Flight Sergeant Eric Blackman handling the RAF high speed rescue launch on watch in the English Channel off German occupied France opened out his throttles. Soon he and his crew, impatient for action, were in the midst of it, for out of the sky a giant US Flying Fortress plummeted into the sea. The rescue launch was quickly on the spot, hauling out the eight bedraggled survivors.
Such was the action that 'Blackie', a peace-time sailing man, had trained for over many, many months. He and his colleagues were members of a skilled, elite section of the RAF-motor boat crew. In his fascinating, often humorous wartime reminiscences, the author presents a nostalgic story that will bring back memories for those who served in the last war in outlandish spots at home and abroad.
Those war years taught the author that for him the sea was a way of life. Back in civvy street he went into yacht brokerage, and his yachting adventures complement and expand his war-time experiences. This is a sailing book with a difference that will delight airman and yachtsman alike.
