Antique & Classic Aircraft is a full colour spectacular devoted to what many purists consider to be real airplanes: Stearmans, Tiger Moths, Monocoupes, and many more. Most of the airplanes featured are still active, kept in airworthy condition by tender loving care and often flown by pilots to relive the age of leather flying helmets, silk scarves, and the quest for adventure.
This book captures the art and technology of private flying over five decades, from the twilight of the Edwardian era, through the roaring twenties, dapper thirties, and the stylish modernity of the forties and fifties. Antique & Classic Aircraft features close-up detail and concentrates on evocative air-to-air photography.
For the purposes of this book, 'Antique' is defined as a light airplane built before 1946, while 'Classic' is used to describe aircraft built between 1946 and 1955.
