{detailed description}The second of two volumes published in the Osprey Combat Aircraft Series on the Eighth Air Force's iconic American heavy bomber of World War 2, this book details the combat careers of the 14 bomb groups that served with the 3rd Bomb Division. The evolution of the force is traced through graphic first-hand accounts from those individuals who took part in the actions detailed this book. As with its companion 1st Bomb Division (covered in detail in Combat Aircraft 18), the 3rd suffered appalling losses whilst taking the war to Germany during the bloody daylight bombing campaign. Supporting Martin Bowman's detailed text are more than 90 action photographs and 40 specially created profiles (including nose art galleries) by Mark Styling. Many of the latter are the product of correspondence with surviving veteran crewmen.
