{detailed description}There have been many books on the Allied bomber offensive against Germany, but never one like this. To put together Battle Over The Reich the author, a serving Royal Air Force officer and expert in present-day air fighting methods, interviewed scores of those who took part in the battle while serving in the RAF, the US Army Air Force or the Luftwaffe. As a result of this protracted and wide-ranging research the author is now able to present a detailed tactical description of the daylight and night attacks, showing how they evolved from ineffectual pin-pricks into the massive sledgehammer blows which razed many German towns and cities. Also the reader is able to trace the evolution of the German gun and fighter defences as they attempted, with varying degrees of success, to thwart those whose aim was to lay waste their homeland. Battle Over The Reich contains approximately 180 carefully-chosen photographs and explanatory diagrams, many of which have never been published before; with the text, they present an entirely new insight into the conduct of large scale offensive and defensive air operations during World War II.
