{detailed description}This book is an exact replica of part of the 1917 edition of Jane's All The World's Aircraft. It is reproduced in the belief that it forms an historical document of outstanding interest. It provides a unique record of the early days of aviation, beginning with the Langley flying machine built in 1902-3. From 1909 Jane's All The World's Aircraft—at first called All The World's Airships (Aeroplanes And Dirigibles)—had itself provided an annual record of the growth of the infant industry. By 1917, however, it was felt that aviation was now sufficiently established to merit a special section in which its entire history could be reviewed.
This section is reproduced here without corrections of any kind, so that the flavour of the original may be preserved. An aeronautical dictionary from the same volume is also included.
Jane's Historical Aircraft from 1902 to 1916 with its 180 photographs, many of which have not been seen for a long time, will appeal both to the aviation expert and the enthusiast.
