Lancaster at War Volume 3

Ref: 3209

Price: £13.00

After nearly 40 years - and almost as many books - interest in the Lancaster seems as prevalent now as it has always been. Whether this is because of its remarkable war record or simply the appeal of its visual impact and the distinctive hum of the Merlins, the Lancaster is one of the very few aircraft which can command an almost guaranteed interest from the enthusiast.
Two books which benefited from - and, indeed, fostered - this interest were the first two volumes of the Lancaster at War trilogy. Lancaster at War - 1 was published in 1971 and has sold steadily ever since: revolutionary in its day, the book covered with graphic realism the RAF's heavy bomber operations during World War 2, something that Volume 2 continued so ably.
What is there new to say? People reading about yet another Lancaster book may well anticipate yet another regurgitation of frequently reiterated facts and even more frequently seen photographs.
Far from it! In Lancaster at War - 3 Mike Garbett and Brian Goulding have once again provided a completely new angle to the Lancaster story. From the first page the reader is catapulted back in time to the dangerous days of the 1940s. Through the many vignettes and eyewitness stories the authors have produced a unique record of life with the Lancaster - in training, on operations, being maintained, flying or on the ground. It will bring back exciting and poignant memories to those who lived through the experience - and enable those who did not to see the period through the eyes of those who were there.
