Price: £8.00

Model making is one of the oldest hobbies known to man, and since aircraft became a part of everyday life they have become yet another addition to the ever growing list of subjects which people have wanted to capture in miniature.
The advent of the plastic construction kit brought the hobby within the reach of those with limited skills or time, who can now produce acceptable models of practically any subject they choose.
Some modellers are perfectly happy with their basic efforts, but the majority who take their hobby at all seriously must often have looked wistfully at the superb models in museums and exhibitions and wished they could emulate the same standards.
Well, with a little care and patience, and the help of this book, anyone now can. The first full-length practical book to be devoted exclusively to constructing scale model aircraft from plastic and balsa, it leads the beginner through the elementary stages of researching and detailing plastic kits; describes what tools and materials are needed: and then takes the reader into the more esoteric realms of converting and scratch-building.
Topics covered include working from and making your own scale drawings; home moulding; constructing a miniature vacuum-forming machine; detailing cockpits, wheels wells and control surfaces obtaining realistic natural metal and other finishes; making decals and a host of other tips which will be equally useful both to the experienced modeller and the novice. There are individual chapters on making 'solid' models from balsa and on scratch-building from plastic card, with practical working examples in each case; and a 'conversion course' which includes such diverse project; as a 1:144 scale Nimrod and a 1:32 scale Merlin-engined Beaufighter.
