{detailed description}Following its first publication in 1972, Missiles of the World has taken its place alongside its companion volumes on Military Aircraft of the World and Civil Aircraft of the World as an established standard compact reference work. Translated into several languages, it is used by professional people and by the world-wide legions of amateurs for whom weaponry is an absorbing hobby.
Since the previous edition was published, much more has been learned about Soviet missiles. The precise number of intercontinental balistic missiles (ICBMs) and submarine launched balistic missiles (SLBMs) deployed by the two Super Powers became common knowledge after the signature of the SALT I Agreement. Information on new developments has been made available more freely now that continued surveillance by satellite is accepted as a guarantee of good faith by both sides. As a result, it has been possible to pack a truly astonishing amount of new material into this second edition of Missiles of the World, requiring a more extensive revision than is customary for even its companions on aircraft. Care has also been taken to ensure that all information is presented in a way that can be understood easily by non-technical readers.{Author / Publisher / Date}by M. J. H. Taylor and J. W. R. Taylor
