{detailed description}RAF Chivenor, in North Devon, closed as an RAF base in October 1995. In this book, David Watkins illustrates many aspects of the airfield's long and interesting history, from the early days as a grass aerodrome in the 1930s, through perilous anti-submarine operations during the Second World War, the mundane post-war role of anti-aircraft duties and ferrying, to the exciting fast jet-training role of No. 229 OCU and No. 2 TWU.
Compiled with the support of RAF Chivenor, notable historians and former RAF personnel, these photographs have been chosen from an extensive archive collection, which was made available for exclusive use in this book.
RAF Chivenor will be of interest not only to aviation enthusiasts and historians, but also to local residents who have a genuine affection for the station.
