RAF Nuclear Deterrent Forces

V-Force, Thor and TSR2 - now the story can be told. This recently de-classified official history records the events that led to probably the greatest change in British defence policy in peacetime. It chronicles a period from the end of WWII to 1969; the threat of nuclear war and the weapons that might have been used. It is a fascinating and inspiring account of planning, courage, determination and devotion to duty. Beginning with the development of the atomic bomb; taking us through the brilliant work of scientists and engineers in designing Blue Danube the first British operational weapon; the building of the V-Bombers, and finally the implementation of the deterrent policy by Royal Air Force Bomber Command in partnership with the Strategic Air Command, United States Air Force.
First published in 1991 as an in-house history by the Air Historical Branch of the RAF.
