{detailed description}The Luftwaffe evaluated by a senior German officer

Aerial combat, reconnaissance and support operations

20 contemporary photographs

During World War II the Luftwaffe was the only air force that had extensive practical knowledge of combat against the Soviet armed forces, engaging its numerically superior opponent with some success. After the war the U.S. Historical Research Division set up a project utilising the expertise of senior German officers who had been involved in air operations, in order to benefit from the lessons they had learned. The original document upon which Spearhead for Blitzkrieg is based was written as part of this project, its author having been a commander during the campaign in Russia. General Deichmann drew on his own experience to describe the types of operations that had worked, and, equally importantly, those that had not.
For this new edition, eminent aviation authority- Dr Alfred Price has completely reedited the original translation to bring out the salient points. He has also added notes to amplify points made by the author. As a result Spearhead for Blitzkrieg will enable readers to see Luftwaffe air support operations during World War II in a new light.
General der Flieger Paul Deichmann was posted to the Luftwaffe General Staff in 1934, and by the end of World War II he commanded Luftwaffe Command 4.
Dr. Alfred Price served as an aircrew officer in the Royal Air Force, and his flying career spanned 15 years. He has written more than 40 books on aviation subjects.
