Sywell

Fifty year history of Sywell aerodrome, otherwise known as Northampton airport. Well illustrated history covering private flying during the late 1920's and early 1930's, the formation of No.6 Elementary Flying Training School in the mid thirties and its use as a RAF repair depot for Wellington bombers during World War II.
Post war, Sywell flourished as a centre for private flying and training and was used as a base for some of the aircraft featured in the 1966 film "Battle of Britain."
