{detailed description}United States Navy Aircraft since 1911 has been completely revised and updated and like the earlier editions, will become the standard reference work covering all the aircraft of the US Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Amongst other additions it now includes such types as the McDonnell Douglas Goshawk, Harrier 1I and Hornet, the Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk, Aerospatiale HH-65 Dolphin, Boeing E-6A and Dassault Breguet HU-25.
Many of the entries of the second edition have also been modified and updated to provide new details of production and operational service; a number of new line drawings have also been provided for some of these aircraft.
The core of the book describes more than 140 significant aircraft types, and each is illustrated with at least one photograph and a three-view line drawing. A section is devoted to those aircraft procured for service but of less significance, while appendices cover foreign aircraft, gliders, balloons and airships.
Cover illustration: An 'original painting by Wilfred Hardy depicts a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet of VFA-305 from USS Enterprise (CVN-65) off the coast of California.
