{detailed description}Gordon Kinsey, well known for his books on East Anglian airfields, traces the development of aviation in the East of England from the time of the R.A.F. Expansion Scheme to the 1980's, when Jaguars and Tornadoes take to the the air with the howl of their powerful engines. He tells of the coming of the United States Army Air Force, and of its daylight bombing offensive in the Second World War, of the comings and goings of the R.A.F.'s "Moon Squadron" which landed agents in occupied Europe and dropped supplies to the Resistance, and of the research into radio-location, later renamed radar, on the Suffolk coast. And he relates the story of early commercial operations in the region, including one of the first helicopter mail deliveries.
