{detailed description}Series of captioned photographs depicting every Avro aircraft type. (Part of the “Britain in Old Photographs” series.)

A.V. Roe and Company, one of the great British aircraft manufacturing firms, was founded in 1910 by the famous aviation pioneer Alliott Verdon Roe. Over the next fifty-three years the company produced a multitude of machines from its factories in Manchester and Southampton, including such types as the 504 trainer, the Lancaster bomber and the impressive delta wing Vulcan.
A.V. Roe left the company in 1928 when it was taken over by Armstrong Siddeley, the forerunner of Hawker Siddeley. The name Avro, dropped in 1963, was recently revived by Hawker Siddeley's successor, British Aerospace. when they formed a new subsidiary, Avro International Aerospace.
This absorbing collection of photographs includes many which have never been published before, and illustrates every aircraft type produced by Avro. Fully captioned by aviation historian Roger Jackson, they form a chronological history of the company, which will provide the perfect introduction to the subject for all aviation enthusiasts.
