{detailed description}This book records for the first time all aircraft built in Canada from the pioneer work of 1909 up to the present time when Canadian products are in worldwide service — including some of the most economic short-haul transport aircraft such as the de Havilland Canada Dash 7.
The fascinating work of Dr Alexander Graham Bell and J.A.D. McCurdy is well covered as is the activity of many less well-known pioneers.
Histories of the Canadian aircraft manufacturers and a background of Canadian aviation set the scene for the major part of this work which describes the individual aircraft in chronological order under each manufacturer.
The 'bush' aeroplane, with wheels, floats and skis, and the small flying-boat made major contributions to the development of Canada and these aircraft are dealt with at length and illustrated by some outstanding photographs.
Canada only just missed being the first country to fly a jet transport — the Avro Canada Jetliner —and this naturally has its place in this work.
The Noorduyn Norseman has a place of its own in world aviation and so too have the series of de Havilland Canada STOL transports, while Canadair's CL-215 water bomber is one of the few flying-boats still in production. Apart from dealing with these Canadian products, this book also records the major Canadian wartime contribution in building British-designed aircraft for use by Canada and the Allies.
There is a very detailed production list of Canadian-built aircraft and a section on the more important projects. The book is profusely illustrated.
