{detailed description}No. 4 in the World War Two Photo Album Series.

As American B-17s and British Lancasters pummelled German cities and industrial centres to rubble, the Luftwaffe was forced to invent new and often dangerous expedients to combat them. Improvements in radar equipment and night fighting techniques were among the most important innovations, and a variety of aircraft types were adapted to utilise them, including the famous Ju 88, Do 17, Bf 110 and FW 190. This book is a unique pictorial record of these defensive measures, drawing exclusively on German wartime archive material taken on the spot by Luftwaffe war correspondents. It shows not only the aircraft but also their crews and much of the ground activity, including radar, searchlight and Flak installations.
Each of the photographs has been specially selected for freshness and originality as well as quality and the result is a superb record of one vital aspect of the air war. In addition there is an introduction by well-known aviation author Bryan Philpott which outlines the course of the campaign and the German counter-measures. There is also a campaign map and appendices listing aircraft types and Order of Battle, etc.
