{detailed description}FROG (Flies Right Off the Ground) model aircraft were made by a division of Lines Bros. Ltd. (Triang Toys, Minic, etc.). They were continuously in the forefront of innovation for both flying and static models, being the first to perfect the plastic kit which brought in the era of fine scale detail.
The book tells the story of all these models, their origins and construction and something of the commercial considerations that influenced their design.
As the first book on this subject, it will become an invaluable reference work and will include a compendium of all the plastic kits, including non-aircraft models—cars, ships and military items etc., produced from 1936-1976 together with full details of the flying models and motors for boats and aircraft from 1932 onwards.

Richard Lines had the good fortune to be given a number of FROG models of the 1930s for 'trials'. The pleasure obtained from them made a strong impact at the time and remains vivid to this day. He joined the family firm of Lines Bros. in 1947 and worked in the FROG division at various times between then and 1976 thus gaining a unique insight behind the scenes. The author and his cousin Peggy Lines (who ran Hamleys for many years) are the only remaining archivists and historians of the Lines empire.

Leif Hellström lives in Stockholm, Sweden, where he works with a telecommunications company. An early interest in modelling gradually changed into kit collecting during the 1970s, the first kit in his FROG collection being a Magister purchased around 1973.
Over the years the collection has grown to encompass all aspects of FROG plastic kits, from Penguins to present-day Soviet issues. He first met Richard Lines in 1980 and in 1983 they decided to co-operate in writing this book, both having had plans for such a publication for some time.
