{detailed description}No. 6 in the World War Two Photo Album Series.

The fighting in the Mediterranean during World War 2 produced some truly epic battles, including the invasion of Crete, the defence of Malta, the struggle for Tobruk, and the Allied landings in North Africa and Sicily. In all these campaigns, German fighters played an important part either in air-to-air combat or ground-attack roles. Using mainly Messerschmitt Bf 109s and Bf 110s, Luftwaffe pilots caused considerable problems to the Allied air forces. Fully stretched and often under-equipped, the German air force fought bravely, but in the end had to succumb to the sheer weight of numbers, better supplies and superior aircraft of the Allies.
Although this campaign has been covered in other volumes, this book is unique in that it shows the operations pictorially and exclusively from the German viewpoint. Drawing entirely on German wartime photo archives, this sixth title in the series is certain to make an important contribution to wartime literature.
The majority of the photographs have not been published before and have been carefully selected for their quality as well as rarity and interest value. In addition, there is an introduction by the well-known aviation author Bryan Philpott which gives a résumé of the campaign. Also included are descriptions of fighter types, a campaign map, and a list of fighter units and their aircraft.
