{detailed description}Hawker Aircraft and its forebears have occupied a unique position in British aviation by supplying the bulk of the Royal Air Force's fighter aeroplanes since 1915. Unlike other manufacturers the Hawker company clung tenaciously to one line of development-that of single-engined aircraft-and has done so with conspicuous success. There have been multi-engined projects but none have entered production. This album describes the formation of the company in 1920 and its subsequent development into a major division of Hawker Siddeley Aviation; it provides a chapter-by-chapter description of every Hawker type from the Duiker parasol monoplane of 1923 to the Harrier V/STOL strike aircraft now serving with the RAF and the United States Marine Corps ; and it lists the main publishable details of Hawker projects. The album is profusely illustrated, many of the photographs being published for the first time.
