In addition to covering all the phases of designing. building and flying model gliders this book gives detailed building instructions for a series of nine models Starting with elementary all balsa hand launched types the beginner can thoroughly acquaint himself with the finer points of gliding and then build some of the super contest sailplanes, such as Aeolus, Atalanta and Zeus, models No 7. 8 and 9 respectively, or even advance to larger models.
The following is a short summary of the glider designs in this book.
Model No. 1.
A simple all balsa outdoor glider admirably suited to the beginner or younger enthusiast. Easy to build and fly, and yet fully capable of teaching the basic principles of flight, trimming, etc.
Model No. 2.
An outdoor hand launched all balsa glider incorporating the best design feature of a model of this type. Many long flights are possible with this machine.
Model No. 3 and Model No. 4.
Two indoor gliders of all balsa construction with a first class flight performance. Again should appeal to the younger readers.
Model No. 5 Aegeus.
A simple 42 in. span glider with a "box" fuselage and a parasol wing mounting. Ideally suited for a first attempt at a competition model and capable of a really excellent performance. This rugged little machine is an "intermediary" between the beginner and the contest sailplane types.
Model No. 6. Leander. 49 in. span.
An efficient little machine that was placed second in the 1939 Pitcher Cup contest and has been a consistent winner ever since. Anyone who has built a Wakefield will enjoy making this model, and still further enjoy its first class performance.
Model No. 7. Aeolus. 48 in. span.
One of the most outstanding model sailplanes ever produced. Its soaring properties are really amazing and it is a first class contest model for the experienced builder.
Model No. 8. Atalanta. 52 in. span.
A first class design that has held many club records and won many contests. This sailplane will appeal to all serious minded aeromodellers.
Model No. 9. Zeus. 82 in. span
A superb sailplane combining excellence of design and construction with a performance approaching that of a full size machine. The extremely high aspect ratio wings and the beautiful streamlines make this advanced model one of the most perfect yet produced. It is a special design for the experienced model builder.
