{detailed description}Charged with the formidable task of locating and marking German targets for attack by the main force of Bomber Command, the Path Finder Force — No 8 (PFF) Group — was perhaps the most experienced and highly trained elite created within the Royal Air Force during World War 2. Its aircrew members were almost wholly volunteers and despite the terrifying odds against any individual, or complete crew, ever completing the stipulated 60-sorties tour of operations with the PFF, the most feared 'punishment' for PFF members was to be sacked and posted away to other units.
This book is not a history of the Path Finder Force but an attempt to recreate in words and pictures something of the authentic atmosphere of the subject and its place in history. As with previous titles in this series, much of the narrative and many of the photographs come from men with first hand experience — men who flew with or were an integral part of the PFF. They alone are best qualified to recount the Path Finder story.
Chaz Bowyer, already well known for his other titles in the Ian Allan At War' series —Mosquito, Hurricane, Sunderland and Beaufighter — has used his knowledge and experience to produce this remarkable evocation of a remarkable force.
