{detailed description}This book is about the camouflage and markings of aircraft used by Royal Air Force Fighter Command in Northern Europe during the years 1936-1945. The development of camouflage in the Royal Air Force was made progressively and each change of colour or style of markings was brought about for a definite reason, usually as a result of operational experience and necessity.
The changes in both the camouflage and markings are dealt with here as they were applied to each particular type of aircraft operated by Fighter Command during the period covered. For the first time, the progressive changes are quoted by date and the styles illustrated, thus providing a reference work for enthusiasts and modellers by which the colours of an aircraft can be identified from a black and white photograph.
A great deal of new information is included, and published for the first time are details of the development of new colour schemes and the way in which they evolved. Coloured five-view drawings are included which illustrate all the basic standard colour schemes used at various periods for day fighters, night fighters and intruders. The order in which progressive changes to markings were made is profusely illustrated by black and white plan and side views with explanatory captions. The photographs have been chosen individually to emphasize certain aspects of the subject. Some are already well known but have been included to describe the colours and markings, while many others are published for the first time.

Publishers bound copy of issues previously published separately. All major aircraft covered as well as some lesser known types, eg. Hurricane, Spitfire, Mosquito, Whirlwind, Welkin, Tomahawk, Airacobra etc.
