{detailed description}Hellcat. Mustang. Flying Fortress. Thunderbolt. These were only a few of the magnificent warplanes that took to the air during World War II. Not simply a forgotten page of history, they fly the skies again in the Confederate Air Force Ghost Squadron.
Formed in 1957, the Confederate Air Force maintains the most extensive collection of fully restored and working World War II airplanes, both Axis and Allied, in the world. Based in Harlingen, Texas, the Ghost Squadron stages spectacular airpower demonstrations throughout the country. Its mission: to keep alive the memory and spirit in which these magnificent planes were flown in defense of our nation.
Collected here for the first time are more than 100 breathtaking, full-color photographs of this glorious fighting force in dramatic flight. With many vintage wartime photographs, little-known facts on the planes' design and manufacture, and fascinating stories behind their restoration. Spirits in the Sky is a splendid keepsake edition that every aviation fan will cherish.
