{detailed description}This is the story of the most widespread and versatile training aircraft ever built. The T-6 is an aeroplane used by more air forces worldwide than any other; a brilliant concept developed and modified through a decade and resulting in more than 17,000 flying machines, more than 600 of which are still flying some fifty years later. It is the best-loved and most- remembered single-engined training aircraft of all time; an adaptable and rugged aircraft that performed in the unexpected roles of fighter, dive-bomber, COIN aircraft, ground-attack machine, observation aircraft and on extensive anti-guerrilla suppression roles. The T-6 has served at various times and various dates as an airliner, mail plane, crop-sprayer and pylon racer. The T-6 is the aircraft still most commonly seen at air displays and air races; beloved by stunt aces and formation teams alike but best-remembered as the aircraft that spawned several generations of young pilots in countries as diverse as Brazil and the old Soviet Union. In World War II if you had learned to fly in combat, odds on you learnt your trade in the T-6. To the Americans it was the Texan, to the British the Harvard, the Australians the Wirraway but all came from the same illustrious line. This book is a pictorial tribute to that great aircraft.
