{detailed description}Through the story of this aircraft, and the three frightful accidents which wiped it temporarily from the sky, is one of the most remarkable and dramatic in the history of flight, it has never, apart from some tantalising newspaper reports, been fully and frankly told.
Here is the full history of the design, the construction and the faults; the long reconstruction, the patient and careful analysis of every detail of the accidents, all leading to the creation of a new Comet, which everyone hopes will be the flagship of the world's airlines for many years to come.
Derek Dempster, part-author of The Inhabited Universe, was a fighter pilot and, in addition to knowing many of the personalities involved, has gone to great lengths in research to establish the absolute correctness of what he writes. His text is very fully illustrated by photographs.
