{detailed description}Geoffrey Ellis started his Air Force career in England in 1923 as an aircraft apprentice at Cranwell. As a boy entrant he was one of the first of Lord Trenchard's highly qualified aircraft tradesmen on whom so much of the success of the Royal Air Force depended.
After service in England he was posted to the Sudan where he served as an air mechanic and later as an air gunner. His story outlines the remarkable ingenuity and tenacity of the early aircraftsmen in keeping their highly temperamental aircraft airworthy under the most basic conditions.
After leaving the Royal Air Force he joined the New Zealand Air Force with which he served for twenty-five years, including the Pacific War, eventually reaching the rank of Wing Commander.
This remarkable story covers the history of development of military aircraft over 40 years and makes fascinating reading for aviation historians and enthusiasts.
