{detailed description}Since the first edition of this volume appeared in 1965 many historical documents have become available for study, notably the official files in the Public Record Office. This extensively revised and greatly augmented second edition incorporates the products of the author's researches in much of this additional material.
It provides completely new, full and authentic histories of such aircraft as the Austin A.F.B.1, Armstrong Whitworth Armadillo and the Martinsyde F.3/F.4 designs; casts new light on others, such as the Armstrong Whitworth triplanes; explains, for the first time, why the R.F.C. in France never received the eagerly-awaited monoplane fighter; and includes several important additional illustrations.
This new book provides a very substantial and significant extension of the known history of the aircraft described in its pages, and its comprehensive text largely supersedes that of the original volume.
