{detailed description}This third volume of British Civil Aircraft is uniform in layout with the first two and completes the detailed description, illustration and listing of all transport aircraft, light aeroplanes, home-builts, civil-registered military types and helicopters constructed in Britain, or imported for British operators, since civilian flying was first permitted in 1919.
Commencing with the highly successful Hawker Siddeley HS 748 propeller-turbine medium transport, it covers the entire output of other well-known British manufacturers such as Hunting Percival, Martinsyde, Miles, Percival, Saunders-Roe, Scottish Aviation, Short, Slingsby, Spartan, Supermarine, Vickers and Westland. It recalls epic long distance flights and brilliant racing successes by the classic Miles and Percival monoplanes of the 1930s; tells of the revolution in air transport and the new standards of passenger comfort set by Short's immortal Empire flying-boats on the world trunk routes of Imperial Airways and BOAC and begins the story of the company's modem Skyvan. The activities of pre-1939 light aeroplanes built by Parnall, Redwing, Westland and others are discussed, along with modem equivalents such as the Nipper, Rollason's well-known free enterprise Condor; and the Popular Flying Association's ever-growing family of home-builts.
This is a reprint, with numerous minor amendments, of the revised second edition. The work was undertaken by the author's son, Roger Jackson.

Originally published in 1959-60 as "British Civil Aircraft 1919-1959" and re-titled as "British Civil Aircraft Since 1919" when 2nd editions were published in the early 1970's it was finally titled as "British Civil Aircraft 1919-1972" when Conway Maritime Press reprinted the 2nd editions with corrections in 1987-88.
