The Allied bombing of Le Portel in 1943. Operation Starkey was conceived to convince the Germans that an invasion was imminent in the Pas de Calais area. Inaccurate marking, by Pathfinders, of the coastal guns at Le Portel resulted in the bombing of the town itself.
